Our MAN v FAT Soccer leagues continue to go from strength to strength, with hundreds of pounds of weight having already been shifted in the first season stateside.
We’ve seen some great communities building in Broward and Tampa Bay, including several guys who have become our first American members to hit their 5% weight loss.
We caught up with Moreno Webb, who plays in our Broward club to find out his experiences so far.
1) Tell us a bit more about yourself? (i.e. age, what you do for work, if you have a family etc)
I am 36 years old, happily married with two kids. Although I was born in the USA, I grew up in Sardinia, Italy and only returned to the USA once I completed high school. As you may understand, that is where my passion for football and especially Juventus originated. I am a veteran of the U.S. Army and currently work as an Emergency Room registered nurse.
2) What were your initial reasons for signing up for MAN v FAT Soccer? And how did you find out about it?
MAN v FAT Soccer appeared on both my Instagram and Facebook accounts as an ad. When reading more about it, I realized that it was exactly what I needed: being held accountable for losing weight every week and the fun of playing football without the pressure of under performing.
3) How have you found being a part of the league so far? And how are you and your teammates getting on as a group?
Being part of the league has been incredible! My team is filled with like minded individuals and we are very active on the team’s Whatsapp chat. These fine men are the best teammates I could have asked for. We are always cheering and motivating each other so we can do better on the pitch, but more importantly on the scale.
I realized that another motivator to losing weight is competitiveness. We are always looking at how well other teams are doing and discussing ways to improve our numbers. Our intent is to become the dominant team!
4) What has been the secret to your success in losing weight so far? And what have been the early challenges?
I am a night shift worker who rarely has the time to get something to eat during a 12 hour work day. I used to grab quick high calorie meals and sodas and eat them quickly. After my shift I would go home and eat a big breakfast. On my days off I would eat okay, but I would snack on many carbs.
I modified my diet by choosing to eat dinner right before getting ready to go to work, and only eating a small salad at work if I had the time. I increased my water consumption to about a gallon a day and no longer have breakfast when I get home. I sustained my eating habits on my days off as well. By doing so I have been doing what is considered intermittent fasting, consuming mostly one meal a day.
It is important to state that I am followed by my primary care doctor who approved my diet change and will monitor me and alert me in the event I need to make changes. I also started to implement a 30 minute to 1 hour walk every other day.
My crazy work schedule makes following these changes easy, but early challenges included hunger, low energy, and questioning all choices that lead me to that moment! However, seeing the pounds dropping on our weekly weigh in was enough to keep me on the right track!
5) What would you say to any guy who is thinking of signing up for MAN v FAT Soccer?
Do it! While losing weight on your own is certainly possible, you will likely be more successful in this program. You will be surrounded by amazing peers and coaches who will hold you accountable for the promise you made to an important person: YOU.
If you are worried about not being able to perform on the pitch or you never played soccer, this is the exact program you want to be in. Nobody really cares about how good your skills are; all we care about is becoming healthy and have fun together!
